Frequently asked questions

What us the difference between microbladed brows and combination brows?

Microbladed Brows– Ultra-fine hair strokes are placed in between your natural brow hairs creating a natural, fluffy texture. It looks most natural on clients who already have semi full brow hair and are wanting to perfect their shape. Not ideal for oily skin types.

Combination Brows– Multidimensional style that combines microbladed hair strokes and shading throughout the arch and tail or shading throughout the whole brow. Shading can be soft or more dense. This is the best option for oily skin and for those that fill in their brows with makeup and want a bolder look.

How long will my PMU last?

Cosmetic tattooing is meant to fade over time. Factors such as skin type, lifestyle, age, metabolism, medications, and pigment color affect the longevity of the tattoo. UV rays can affect the rate at which these pigments are broken down. To maximize your brows follow the aftercare instructions and touchup your brows as needed.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

You must discontinue use of retinol/tretinoin around the brow area 2 weeks before the procedure (and should refrain from using it until 4 weeks AFTER your follow up visit). No botox, fillers, microdermabrasion, or chemical peels, etc for at least 2 weeks prior or 4 weeks after your procedure.

Doing any of the following will causes excessive bleeding during your procedure and will affect your results:

Working out

ingesting aspirin, ibuprofen, caffeine (anything that can thin the blood. Avoid 48 hours before and after appt)

Please refrain from supplements containing vitamin B a week before your scheduled appt.

Please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment time.

What are contraindications?

You cannot receive PMU treatment if:

Currently using accutane or have used accutane within the past 6 months

Pregnant/breastfeeding

On antibiotics

Have a freshly tanned/sunburned face

Are on blood thinners or antibiotics

Have rosacea

Are currently undergoing cancer treatment (must be off radiation/chemo for 6 months)

Still using skincare containing retinol/tretinoin- you must discontinue use 2 weeks prior to appointment

Have had a botox appointment within the last 2 weeks

What is the healing process?

DAYS 1-7 (HEAL) – The area begins to dry out, forming a light crust.

DAYS 7-14 (PEEL) – The crust begins to flake away.

DAYS 14-21 (FADE) – The new skin underneath looks light and the color looks faded.

DAYS 21-28 (RESULT) – The new skin is healed, and you begin to see the healed result.

In the hours following your procedure, your brows will appear much darker and bolder than it will heal, due to the oxidation in the surface layer of the skin. Your brows could also appear warmer in color. You may experience redness, swelling around the treated area. This typically subsides or disappears completely within 48 hours.

AROUND DAY 3 YOU MAY NOTICE SOME FLAKING OR LIGHT SCABBING ON THE TREATED AREA, DO NOT PICK AT IT, DOING SO CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF PIGMENT IN THOSE AREAS. BROWS MAY APPEAR SPOTTY OR PATCHY UNTIL THE ENTIRE BROW HAS FINISHED HEALING. YOU MAY NOTICE THAT SOME AREAS MAY APPEAR VERY LIGHT OR EVEN TO HAVE LOST PIGMENT ENTIRELY AFTER THEY HAVE PEELED, THE EPIDERMIS WILL BE THICKER CAUSING MUTING, HIDING OR DIFFUSING OF PIGMENT UNDERNEATH. THE EPIDERMIS WILL NORMALIZE OVER THE NEXT 4-6 WEEKS AND SOFTENED PIGMENT SHOULD APPEAR MORE CLEARLY ON SURFACE OF THE SKIN.

AT 4-6 WEEKS YOUR BROWS WILL BE FULLY HEALED. WHATEVER PIGMENT THAT DOES NOT RETURN WILL BE ADDRESSED AT YOUR TOUCH UP APPOINTMENT OR IF YOU’D PREFER DARKER, BOLDER BROWS WE CAN ALWAYS ADD MORE COLOR OR DIMENSION DURING THAT APPOINTMENT! But remember it’s always best to err on the lighter side, rather than going too bold!
